An Enclave Within an Enclave Within an Enclave Within an Enclave
The border between India and Bangladesh used to be an absolute mess. Around 200 enclaves were scattered along the frontier between the two countries.
To be more specific, these were pieces of one country's territory that were entirely enclosed within the other country's territory.
These enclaves were called chhitmahals, which can be translated as "crumbs of land."
Since agreements concluded in 2015, these enclaves have been gradually disappearing.
The most astonishing enclave was Dahala Khagrabari: it was an Indian enclave inside a Bangladeshi enclave, which was itself enclosed within a larger Indian enclave. In other words, a resident of this enclave who wanted to leave to reach the mainland would have had to cross borders controlled by the other country multiple times.
