Terms of Use
Tidecast (iOS, watchOS) · Effective 21 October 2026
1. Publisher and acceptance
Tidecast is published by Raphaël Goupille (contact: [email protected]). By using the app you accept these terms and Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA), which governs the app's licence. Where they conflict, Apple's EULA prevails.
2. The service
Tidecast shows tide predictions computed on the device, buoy observations, weather and alerts, and "best time to go" suggestions for clamming, shore fishing, tide pooling and the beach, in the United States and France. Live data depends on third-party services that may be unavailable, incomplete or late; tides remain available offline.
3. Safety disclaimer
Predictions are computed from published harmonic constants: NOAA's in the United States, TICON-4 and FES2022 in France. Actual water levels vary with weather, wind, pressure and river flow, sometimes by a lot. French heights are given above the chart datum (zéro hydrographique); the nautical charts shown are not official navigation charts. You alone are responsible for your decisions: check conditions on site, official sources and local rules (fishing, access, safety).
4. Tidecast Pro, purchases and subscriptions
- Tidecast Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription and, where available, as a one-time purchase. Price, length and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings (Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com). "Restore Purchases" brings Pro back on a new device or after a reinstall.
5. Data sources and attributions
- NOAA CO-OPS, NDBC and NWS (US): US Government public data. Nautical charts: NOAA Chart Display Service (Office of Coast Survey). Tidecast is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA.
- Apple Weather (Apple WeatherKit): wind, UV, air; trademark and data sources shown in the app.
- TICON-4, DGFI-TUM — CC BY 4.0 licence (tide-gauge harmonic constants).
- REFMAR, Shom — Licence Ouverte 2.0 (mean levels from the gauges' own records). Tidal coefficient computed at Brest with the Shom's method.
- Shom, Atlas de courants de marée 2D, doi 10.17183/ATLASCOURANTS2D_NETCDF — Licence Ouverte 2.0.
- Candhis, Cerema — Licence Ouverte 2.0 (wave buoys).
- FES2022: "The FES2022 Tide product was funded by CNES, produced by LEGOS, NOVELTIS and CLS and made freely available by AVISO."
- OpenStreetMap: beaches © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL licence; the beach file bundled with the app is a derived database under the same licence.
- Apple Maps (MapKit): base map, place search and directions.
Tidecast's predictions are not the Shom's and are not derived from them. Naming these bodies is attribution, not endorsement.
6. Permitted use
You may use the app for your personal use, as Apple's EULA allows. You agree not to decompile or circumvent it, not to bulk-extract its data or the Candhis relay's, and not to use it unlawfully.
7. Intellectual property
The app, its code, design and text belong to the publisher. Third-party data remains under its own licences (section 5).
8. Limitation of liability
The app and its data are provided "as is", with no warranty of accuracy, completeness or availability. To the extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for damage resulting from the use of the predictions or data shown, or from the unavailability of third-party services. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, or deprives a consumer of the mandatory rights granted by the law of their country of residence (including statutory conformity guarantees).
9. Personal data
See the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes and governing law
These terms may change; the effective date is then updated. They are governed by the law of the publisher's country of establishment, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. Questions: [email protected].
